Experienced Scrapper
I have a job to remove 81 42-inch filing cabinets. Most of them are completely filled with paper.
This is located in Middlesex NJ ( central NJ)
My question is, is anyone aware of any companies that will drop a FREE dumpster in which I can discard the paper. Or, is anyone interested in taking this paper themselves.
Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I have never had the quantities to follow through on the research but have heard from reliable sources that office paper can pay close to what shred prices are. I'm thinking that like metal, you need to sort and have tonnage to get the best price. Probably going to take you doing some research and phone calls to get hooked up.

I will end up doing just that. I'm hoping that maybe someone will express interest. I don't really want to deal with the paper, so if someone can make decent coin off of it I'm hoping they'll come and do just that.

Why not deal with it??....Even in a small market like I have here (Knoxville) I know of several places that will pay for paper......If your removing the file cabinets why not make the money off the paper?

Do the math....42 file cabinets at $10 Each is $420.........6 tons of paper at .05 per lb is $600........The paper is worth more than the metal
I don't remember the name of company. Google the company that does the paper recycling for NYC (there was an article about paper theft and they were interviewed) They are located in ears Rutherford nj. Also westbury paper stock in westbury ny. Let me know if it helps and how u make out. Good luck

I think Mike was thinking they were the tall ones, short ones probably only worth 5-6 bucks unless they are the old heavy ones.

I will admit it I made a mistake.......I thought it was 42 file cabinets (Large ones)..........if it is 81 small ones that is still like 42 big ones.........Either way the paper has value in that quanity

Since ypu have to pull the paper out and IF you have a place to sell it...definitely worth renting a uhaul in case toy dpnt have something large enough to haul it all I would think. May ad well make all the money since you have put the effort in to pull all the paper out...just put it on the truck and drop it off. Bet you get more than .05/lb too since it is essentially white paper and not say colored....alot closer to shred price so that figure above will go up significantly.

After several phone calls I found that one of the transfer stations takes paper for free. I had 5 tons from a cleanout. Recently I did see one buyer in Chicago, so they are out there.

The cabinets are 42 inches wide, 5 feet tall and 18 inches deep. I imagine they weigh about 110 pounds each. Definitely going to be renting a u-haul, hoping to move them in two trips.
Haven't had any luck finding a paper buyer. I'm beginning to think if I can't find anyone to BUY the paper it might not even be worth doing the job based on the labor required to remove the paper.

There is also a place in Edison on meadow road, that does paper and plastic, don't know if they buy.
Google is your friend, I found these in a few minutes and there are many more, you will have to call to see what they offer.

$0.05lb for paper is a good price and will be for white paper only. If it has mixed in any colored, staples, binders, metal clips, etc...etc... then you are looking at around $0.02lb if you have a account with them otherwise they will just tell you they will take it for free unless you come back with it baled.
There is a paper mill in Staten Island, NY that I sell to. Pratt Industries I think. Dont know how far it is but may be worth the trip.
I sell 22 tons at a time though so unsure if they buy smaller loads.
My last price was going through a broker. After his fee and transport from northern NH it came to $45 a ton for baled low grade junk paper like cereal boxes, junk mail, etc.

I have a cabinet like that in my garage as a tool box. The lid opens up for each level and slides back? Is that the type you have? I love mine a s a tool box, but those are even deeper. Mine is maybe 12 inches deep, but probably 5 feet wide and 5 feet tall. Check for resale before scrapping, but with the quantity, you may have to just scrap most of them and only save a few if you don't have the space. Do the drawers pull out like I think they do?

It sounds like what you're describing except the drawers dont pull out.
Also, they were in a building prior to where they are now that was flooded out. Most of them are rusted to some degree
