Where to sell working electric motors

Hi. I have quite a few working electric motors. I am wanting to find a place that will buy them, and I dont want to deal with ebay or craigs list. Anybody know of a place that will buy them? They are all 3 phase 3 hp to 7.5 hp and one monster 50 hp. I hate to just scrap them out since they still work.

Thanks for the good luck wish and Im guessing that was sarcasm. I am just wanting to know if there are any places that buy them for re-sale other than ebay or craigs list.

Do you have local auctioneers that do online auctions? I have a local auctioneer I run stuff through. Sometimes make less than what I *probably* would make selling it via CL, but then I don't have to wait around for no shows/tire kickers/lame asses.

A few times I have had things sell for more than I was asking on CL. Figure that one out.

Try and appliance repair shop or something. You really limited your options by cutting out Craigslist.

You are seriously cutting your own throat by eliminating E-bay or Craig's list. Those are the 2 best resources for selling items above scrap value.

Smaller 3 phase motors are common, our local auction house won't even accept them.

I think the 50Hp one would have a lot of intrest from some people though.

I too think that Ebay/Clist is a great place to start and someone that buys on a regular basis might see your posting and it could grow into a repeat customer.

I used to work for a motor rewind shop & new sales and the most we would ever pay for a working motor single phase or 3 phase was $1/HP. Why?? Because to remain a reputable shop we had to garrantee them for 1 year, so that meant they had to be torn down, cleaned, sometimes the stator had to be redipped with varnish, maybe new leads put on, rotor balanced, new bearings, etc., assembled, tested, and painted. And after all that the selling price would end up anywhere between 40%-60% of a new one. We had a full warehouse of rebuilt motors, all good to go, and some of them were there when I started and were still there when I left 12 years later.

    Just my 2c.

When I got a few large number of motors I sold a few to a rebuilder. Like I29north said I think it was $1 a HP.
The thing was they only wanted the common/standard ones.
If I had space I ould of went the craigslist option. I ended up scrapping the odd ball ones that the rebuilder did not want.

Auctions/ consignment shops are good for quick dump.

I believe some auction houses can get great prices, but it is always a risk.

Can you say Rotophase, any 3 phase electric motor can easily be turned into run as long as the voltage tag reads 220 / 440 volts. You just have to make sure it's wired 220 volts then your past step one.

There are plenty of DIY plans online on how to make manual and auto starting roto phase from old 3 phase electric motors. I made a manual start for a 10 hp 3 ph chop saw I once owned.

If you have trouble finding plans just drop me a msg I have plans for 10 different phase converters.

When I cleaned out a large commercial facility last year there were dozens of those motors, up to and including some that weighed a couple hundred pounds. We auctioned the contents of the building and I was stunned that the buyers were all scrappers. Not a single one went for more than scrap.
